Along with our partner Rise & Shine, the San Augustine Legacy Group raises funds to beautify at-risk historical landmarks in San Augustine.  Beyond the Lewis Railroad Hotel, our newest project is the Jerusalem Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal (C.M.E.) Church.

In 1845, Sutton and Bartlett, two slaves, were granted licenses to preach.  Sutton and Bartlett created a place of worship, they called the "Church on the Branch."  The Jerusalem C.M.E. is the oldest Black church on record in Texas.  The Jerusalem Church has a beautiful history, beautiful people, and is a beautiful place to be...it just needs a Little Bit of Love!
